Interlink's VersaPad touchpad integrated into Toughbook 19 Posted on November 28, 2012 Interlink Electronics, Inc. Has announced that Panasonic has integrated Interlink's VersaPad® touchpad technology into a second Panasonic Toughbook® mobile computer specifically designed for civilian and military use in the harshest outdoor environments.
The VersaPad HDK (Hardware Development Kit) is the ideal solution to evaluate and understand the capabilities of the rugged VersaPad touchpad technology. It provides all the necessary components for engineers and developers to bring their designs to realization. The touchpad sensor is a four-wire resistive touchpad. The pad is composed of two resistive layers separated by an air gap. One plate is used for the X-axis and the other is used for the Y-axis. When pressure is applied, the two resistive plates make contact. A micro-controller measures position and pressure and then uses advanced, proprietary algorithms to yield smooth mouse functionality. The incorporation of our proprietary FSR technology allows us to use force to provide optimized touchpad performance. With smoothness and sensitivity internally enhanced by true pressure measurement, it offers all customary mouse functions—mousing, tapping, dragging, and scrolling. The module's tough, moisture- and grime-resistant surface can be operated with a finger or stylus, even in wet or dirty environments. Plus, it operates over an extended temperature range of -20°C to +60°C.

The VersaPad HDK includes a demo module which can be easily connected to a PC for plug-and-play evaluation. It also includes additional sensor modules in two different connector configurations for engineers to integrate into their own devices using the included guidelines.
The VersaPad Plus PDK (Product Development Kit) is the ideal solution to evaluate and understand the capabilities of our lastest large multi-touch rugged VersaPad technology. It provides everything developers need to bring their designs to realization. The large touchpad sensor (115mm x 65mm) is a four-wire resistive touchpad. In addition this touchpad has two touch interaction capability so you can take advantage of pinch and zoom and two finger scrolling. The VersaPad a versatile touchpad module intended for integration by OEMs into laptops, military and rugged computers, panel PCs, and medical devices. With smoothness and sensitivity internally enhanced by true pressure measurement, it offers all customary mouse functions—mousing, tapping, dragging, and scrolling but now with the addition of two touch gestures. The module's tough, moisture- and grime-resistant surface can be operated with a finger or stylus, even in wet or dirty environments. Plus, it operates over an extended temperature range of -20°C to +60°C.
The VersaPad HDK includes a demo module which can be easily connected to a PC for plug-and-play evaluation using the included micro-USB cable. It also includes one additional sensor module with an FFC connector configurations for engineers to integrate into their own devices using the recommended guidelines. The kit also includes two FFC cables for connecting both the touchpad and external mouse buttons if this is part of your design.
